A Bit of Trivia - "Madrid - Aparri First Flight"

(Tyrone Paragua, February 24, 2011)

"Madrid - Aparri Flight", was said to have been launched to commemorate the friendship between the Philippines and Spain.

Some comments published subsequently mentions about a book written by the late Ed de Rivera Castillet: "Cagayan Province and Her People".   I just would like to mention, in passing, that I found a copy of the book from among my father's archives (he died December 2009).   And the book did contain an account of that historic flight made by the two Spanish pilots from Madrid to Aparri on board a Breguet biplane in May 11, 1926.   The names of the two Spanish pilots: Capts. Eduardo Gallarza and Joaquin Loriga, are now immortalized in the town as two of the streets in San Antonio have been named after them.
