Annual Meeting and Christmas Party - 2013

(Gin Cababa, 05 November 2013)

As the year 2013 approaching to an end, it is that time to have an Annual General Members Meeting and to nominate the upcoming Board of Directors for 2014-2015 of our association. Your continued support is appreciated. See below....

Message from the President

(Gin Cababa, 05 November 2013)

To all my Kailians and Gagayems from Aparri, Cagayan:

Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve you as President of the Aparri International, Inc. which is based in California, USA for the years 2012 and 2013.  It was a great experience for me to have been able to help especially the less-fortunate people of Aparri with the very successful Medical/Dental Mission in Aparri, Cagayan held last May 13 and 14, 2012.   We were also able to bond with our dear friends from Aparri who are based in the East Coast and which created closeness between the East Coast and West Coast members.  They were all so nice to have accommodated us during our visit in Maryland, Washington D.C. and New York City.  Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.  Special mention to then Mayor Ismael Tumaru and his lovely wife,  Dr. Shalimar Tumaru,  donors Dr.  Narciso Ma. Azurin,  Dr. Eleanor Verzosa-Azurin,  Dr. Rodolfo Tabila,  Ms. Arce Olanes of Minanga, Aparri,  Dometila Chua del Valle, Letty Alvarado-Agatep, Josie Espartero-Andres, Mila Donato-Gavieres, Mr. Od Deseo, Linda Muniz-Cruz, Zeny Asuncion-Nace and Veronica Lansi-Co. My apology for names not mentioned.   We also had some small charitable deeds done like the "Feeding the Hungry in L.A." sometime last January 2012.  Our term also was able to clarify and straighten our banking and financial status and we have a new account with Wells Fargo Bank.   Last July 12 and 13,  we had the Aparri International Inc.  Grand Reunion in Las Vegas where we had the rare chance to bond with friends and acquaintances, classmates, schoolmates, batchmates, family and neighbors from Aparri that we hadn't seen in ages.  It was a huge success and we had a blast!!!  Thank you to all who had attended, joined, donated, and most of all prayed for the huge success of the reunion.  As a result, we had a gross amount of more than $14,000 in the bank per our last meeting last September 2013.  Last but not the least,  I would like to thank my high school classmate,  Mr. Domingo Barga for establishing and starting the "Good News Aparri"  which is a newsletter about Aparri here and around the world.  The "Christmas Drive in Aparri 2013"  will not happen this year but will just incorporate with the next medical mission in Aparri for the next term. As the year 2013 approaching to an end I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our fellow officers of the organization especially Gin Cababa who stood by me all the way.

I would also like to share to everyone the expenses incurred in the Medical/Dental Mission in Aparri last May 13 and 14, 2012.  Expenses in Aparri, Cagayan amounted to $4,648.19 and in the US was $1,372.98 so the overall total expenses for the medical dental/mission was $6,021.17.   I was handed $5,000 by the organization to spend for the mission.  The difference of $1,021.17 was from my own pocket and my Asiana Airways ticket which was  $1,058 was also from my own money.  All receipts and computations are with our treasurer, Janette Macatiag de Rivera.  I hope,  this will clear up any doubts as to the money spent......  ABUNADO PO AKO and that's okay.  Anything for our organization..... and  I will gladly support any activities in the future.  For those who know me,  I never cheated or spent money that is entrusted to me by this organization.

On December 14,  2013, we will have the Aparri International, Inc. Christmas Party 2013 which will be held at the Patio de Manila of Rhome Reyes.  It will start at 3:00 pm to hold the Annual General Members meeting, election of officers for the years 2014-2015 and Proposed Amendment of By-laws. Please send in your nominations for the officers by November 9, 2013.    Let's nominate good and deserving Aparrianos to assure us of a strong leadership based on strict ethical codes.

Again,  I thank you all and I remain...

Very truly yours,

Ms. Elnora L. Florendo

New Cagayan Airport Set To Open

MANILA, Philippines - The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) announced that a new airport in the northern Luzon province is expected to open by the 4th quarter.

The $34.2-million Cagayan International Airport in Lal-lo, Cagayan is a joint venture between CEZA and a private consortium that CEZA did not identify in a statement on Friday, March 8.

The new airport is expected to complement the Cagayan Freeport, an economic zone 12 hours from Manila. The new facility will cut down travel time to the logistics hub into a one-hour plane ride and a 40-minute drive.

"The realization of this project shall intensify investment and tourism opportunities, especially of related ventures such as flying school, medical and other support system for the airport crew and tourism facilities," said Jose Mari B. Ponce, CEZA's Administrator and CEO.

Ponce said that the airport's 2.1-kilometer-long runway was completed in December 2012 and could accommodate an Airbus A320 aircraft. Officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) tested the runway on February 19. Airport development started in 2009.

Ponce said that contractors are working to complete the construction of a paved apron and tarmac, a control tower and a terminal building. The facilities are expected to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Ponce added that there is a possibility that the new airport may serve the Asian business aircraft sector. "For this venture, we are eyeing mainland China as a market where hundreds of business jets are being parked at Hong Kong International Airport, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Macau and other Asian airports at high rates and restricted air spaces."

"Considering the more or less an hour flight from the neighboring Asian airports and with the vast and cheap raw land readily available at the Cagayan (Lal-lo) International Airport, its potential for this booming industry is very promising," he added.

There are also plans to add facilities such as typhoon-resistant hangars, refueling stations, maintenance and repair facilities and advanced ground handling units. - Rappler.com
