GIN
CARDONA CABABA
Gin Cababa was co-founder
of Aparri International Inc. with the late Romy ‘Boy’ de Rivera in 2006. He was
its first President for 2006-2007 term; incorporated the Articles and developed
its By-Laws as a tax-exempt non-profit organization; and organized the famous,
spectacular, huge ‘1st Grand Reunion 7-7-7’. Since then, he has been
active in the planning, organizing, and holding of AII (Aparri International Inc.) activities, projects and
events thru the years.
Gin was born in Toran, Aparri, Cagayan to the late Abraham
and Rosalia Cardona Cababa. He has 11 brothers and sisters. He is married to
Delia Manipon from Asingan, Pangasinan, with whom they are blessed with 3
children.
He attended school at Sacred Heart of Mary’s Institution (SHOMI),
now St. Paul College of Aparri, graduating in 1960. He finished a Bachelor’s
degree in Mechanical Engineering at UST in 1965. He continued his education at University of Illinois
in Chicago, USA where they migrated in 1965.
He was a civilian employee of US Air Force and was assigned
at Tachikawa/Yokota AFB, Japan
from 1977 until his retirement in 2000. He was re-employed as sub-contractor at
the Hanford Reservation and SRS for Dept of Energy in 2004, and finally retired
in 2010.
Aside from being active in AII, he has affiliated with the
Filipino-American Community of Carolinas, being its Secretary in 1998; and
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers
Inc.-Mid Columbia Chapter, as Vice-President in 1989.
Gin speaks Tagalog, Ilocano, Ibanag, English and Spanish. His family resides in North Carolina
and at vacation house in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
JOSE BATALLA TAN
Joe Tan was in the ‘nucleus’ group of Aparrianos in forming
the association. He was President in 2008-2009 and Vice-President in 2006-2007.
He has contributed his time and efforts in planning, organizing, and
implementing fund-raising campaigns, projects of the company. He regularly attends
Board meetings, and other functions and reunions.
He was born in 1935 in Aparri, Cagayan to Tan Tong Juan and
Carmen Batalla.. He has 10 brothers and sisters. He is married to Arsenia Abat
Gaetos of San Juan,
La Union. They have 2 sons and 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren.
Joe got his elementary education at Aparri
Central School,
SHOMI, and Kete Chinese School.
He finished his high school studies at Cagayan Valley Institute. Then he
studied at University of the East, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business
Administration. After college, he ventured into a family-owned business which
prospered thru the years, until his migration to USA in 1984. He worked for sometime as Facility Manager of Monte Vista Child Care Center in Ontario,
California. He is now a retiree. Aside from being AII Adviser, he is founder and President of
CVI ‘Walay’ Organization.
His family resides at Ontario,
California.
TARRIE SUGUITAN CO
Tarrie Co was President in 2010-11; and Auditor for two
terms, from 2006-09. During his presidency, our association was able to
generate and raise cash funds from $2,000 to $12,000 plus.
He was born to Cecilia Suguitan and the late Nestor Co. He
is the eldest of siblings Jong, Geng, Charles, Edward, Marc. He is married to
Kristine with whom they have 3 children: Adam, Yanna, Aidan. His family resides in La Quinta, California.
ELNORA LEGASPI FLORENDO
Elnora Florendo is our new President for 2012-2013 term. She
was Secretary in 2008-2009. Immediately upon their assumption to office, the
new Directors under her leadership, approved the holding of AII’s first major
project--Medical and Dental Mission in Aparri on May 13-14, 2012. After this event, Elnora is
planning to have our 3rd Grand Reunion in July, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada,
the site of our 1st Grand Reunion.in 2007.
Elnora was born on January 11, 1950 in Manila
to the late Dr. Elpidio Florendo and Leonor Legaspi. She has 6 brothers and
sisters. She has 4 daughters, 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. She attended school at SHOMI and University of the East,
where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administraton. After college, she worked as Secretary of noted Tagalog
writer Virgilio Almario; as a Branch Manager of Weinstein Pianos; then an
employee at TRC of the Municipality
of Makati.
In 1986, she migrated to California,
USA.
She took up a Nursing course and passed the Board exams in 1990. She presently
works as Wound Care Nurse at Bay Crest Care Center in Torrance,
California.
Her family resides in Gardena,
California.
CESAR ARICHETA REYES
Cesar Reyes is one of the original founding members of the
association. He was First VP in 2008-2009. He always attends and participates in Board meetings, and
joins every fund-raising events and other AII activities.
He was born and raised in Minanga, Aparri, Cagayan. His
parents are the late Jose C. Reyes and Felisa Aricheta.
He took his first 4 years education at Aparri Central
School and finished his
elementary and high school education at Sacred Heart of Mary’s Institution. He
was a working student at Mapua Institute of Technology until his graduation
with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After passing the Board examination for
Chemical Engineers, he went to work at United Laboratories-Medichem Pharmaceutical,
as a Professional Service Representative; Tidewater Oil Co. (Getty Oil Phils.
Co.); and Philippine Refining Co. (Unilever
Phils. Inc.).
Cesar migrated to USA
in 1970, wherein he met his wife, Naty Lazaro Bueno of Laoag City,
Ilocos Norte, and a school teacher. They are blessed with 3 children and 2
grandchildren.
He worked with Chevron USA Inc. for several years, then with
Los Angeles County Sanitation District-Waste Water Treatment Division, where he
got his early retirement benefits. He went back to the Philippines to start a chemical
distribution business, specializing in bottle washing detergents, and chain lubrication oil systems for the
Food and Pharmaceutical industry. After 5 years in the Philippines, the business was
affected by “economic disasters” that
swept the region. Cesar sold his business and came back to California. He worked again in the private
sector, with DK Environmental Co. as a Consultant; and Toyota
Motor Manufacturing Co. as Environmental
Specialist.
As a retiree, Cesar said he is doing “apostolic duty” with
his grandchildren”. His family resides in Torrance,
California,
LORETO ‘BOYSIE’ CANICULA
BERMEJO JR.
Loreto Bermejo Jr. is our new First Vice-President. He was 2nd
VP in 2010-2011. He always attends in Board
meetings and helps in planning and organizing fund-raising campaigns, and charitable
and humanitarian missions and projects.
Boysie was born in Aparri Cagayan to Loreta Macadaeg
Canicula and Loreto Bermejo Jr., former Aparri Municipality Treasurer. He is
married to Zenaida Siriban Estal of Camalaniugan, Cagayan, with whom they have
2 daughters, Lan and Lanie.
He studied at Cagayan Valley Institute (CVI) and Far Eastern
University, graduating with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major
in Accounting. He worked at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
as Budget Officer; then at Bureau of Customs as Trade Control Examiner. He was employed as Accounting Specialist at Avnet Corp.USA;
then at the County
of Los Angeles Registrar’s
Office as Accounting Technologist . He is presently working at the State of California Dept. of
Rehabilitation as Accounting Technologist. He was former Treasurer of the defunct Aparri International
Organization under then the presidency of Gigi Azurin.
He is also currently Vice President of CVI Walay
Organization, headed by Joe Tan.
JANETTE EVELYN PAGGABAO
MACATIAG
Janette Evelyn Macatiag is currently Treasurer of AII; was
Secretary in 2010-11; and Treasurer in 2008-09.
She was born in Aparri, Cagayan to Joel C. Macatiag and Edna
Reyes Paggabao. She has 4 children: Julie Ann Jimenez-Altares, Janine Evelia
Jimenez-Siazon, Jeannie Ivy Jimenez-Altares and Julius Caesar Jimenez Jr.
She studied at CVI and SHOMI, graduating in 1969. She
attended college at UST for 2 years only to earn some units under the BS in
Nursing Preparatory course. She transferred school at Lyceum of Aparri, where
she graduated with the degree of BSBA, major in Management; and also finished
her Master’s degree in Business Administration. She worked with Equitable Bank Corporation for 4 years, then
Development Bank of the Philippines
for 21 years.
Janette migrated to America in 2004. She is presently
connected with the Quaker Gardens Clinic as Certified Nursing Assistant and
Receptionist. She is affiliated with CVI ‘Walay’ International, and is
currently its Secretary.
She resides in Anaheim,
California.
DOMINGO MAGAOAY BARGA
JR.
Domingo Barga Jr. is the new Secretary. He also edits AII
newsletter, GOOD NEWS APARRI. He became active with our association only last year by
coincidence--during the mini-reunions with his SHOMI Batch 1966 classmates in California.
He was born on January 14, 1950 in Manila
to the late Ilocano parents Domingo Sr. and Salome. He has 7 brothers and
sisters: Soledad,
Hamilcar, Amelia, Walter, Loida, Leilani, Yolanda. He is married to Luisa
Bandarlipe of San Fabian, Pangasinan. They have 2 sons: Carlo, Brian;
daughter-in-law Rio Salazar; and 2 grandsons: Marcus Dominic, Allen Cornelius.
His family relocated in Santiago
City, Isabela in 1954, then moved to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental in April 1961;
and Aparri, Cagayan in November 1961 when his father was transferred to PNB
Aparri Branch. He completed his Grade 6 education at Aparri Central
School in 1962, and
graduated from high school at SHOMI in 1966. He studied at UP, and UE where he earned
degrees in BSBA (Accounting) and MBA(short of thesis), and a few units in the College of Law. After college, he worked briefly in a Metropolitan Manila
business newspaper; then at Loyola Memorial Park Inc.; and PNB for 26 years (as
officer in 10 years) until his migration to USA in 2000. He took various jobs
in San Francisco, Los
Angeles and San Diego
as Loans Assistant, Healthcare Counselor, Medical Biller, Medical Administrative
Assistant, Food Demonstrator, Healthcare Provider and hospital Volunteer Aide. He
is semi-retired.
His family has settled in San Diego, California
since 2002.
GEMINIANO ‘GEO’ GUZMAN
PADAMADA
Geo Padamada was Treasurer
in 2006-2007. He has been active with the association since its inception. He was born on June 1, 1952 in Toran, Aparri to the late Marcelino and
Maria Padamada. He is the youngest of 4 siblings. He is married to Melo Jean
Manalo with whom they have 3 children: Geminesse-Jean, a Fashion/Graphic
Designer of Perry Ellis Corporation; Grizelli-Shane,
finishing her Masteral Program in Psychology at University of San Diego; and
Geo Strauss, graduating this year from University of California-Sta. Cruz, with
a Bachelor of Arts-major in Philosophy and Literature. Geo attended school at Cagayan Valley Institute (CVI),
graduating as class Valedictorian in 1969. In college, he was a consistent
scholar at Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA). He graduated in
1972, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, major in
Accounting and Economics. He passed the CPA Board Exams in 1975. He worked at Manila Banking Corp.’s Money Market Dept.; then
transferred to the Bank of Philippine Islands, where he was an Assistant
Cashier.
His family migrated to Toronto,
Canada in 1989, but after 3
months, moved to Riverside,
California, USA. He obtained his Associate Degree in Nursing from Riverside Community College in 1993, and passed
the Board exams the same year. He is currently working as a Registered Nurse at
Patton State Hospital,
a forensic psychiatric hospital.
His family resides in Highland,
California.
FE ARICHETA REYES
Fe Reyes is currently Auditor for 2012-13 term. She was also
Auditor in 2010-11. She is a regular attendee in Board meetings, events, and
reunions.
She was born on June 7 in Aparri, Cagayan to the late Jose
Reyes and Felisa Aricheta. She has 3 brothers and a sister.
She attended school at SHOMI, now St. Paul School of Aparri
(SPSA), and at University of the East, where she earned a degree in Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration, Major in Accounting. After college, she worked at the Bureau of Forest
Development and at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) until 1980,
when she migrated to California, USA. Then she worked at Product Research and Chemical Corp., and
at another manufacturing company where
she became the supervisor of its Credit/Charge-Back Department.
She is now retired and says she is “enjoying my life to the
fullest.” She resides at Los
Angeles, California.
LINDA MUNIZ-CRUZ
Linda Cruz was Area Representative (US East Coast) in
2006-2007. On our 1st Grand Reunion in Las Vegas
in 2007, and 2nd Grand Reunion in Manila last year, she enthusiastically
offered her services: by being a member of Ticket and Sales Committee.
Linda was born on October 11 in Aparri, Cagayan to the late
Vicente Doneza Muniz and Carmen Avila Pagalilauan. She is the oldest of 10
children. She is married to Elmer Cruz, a Chemical Engineer, with whom they are
blessed with 2 daughters and 3 grandsons.
Linda was a loyal SHOMIan. She attended St. Paul College
in Malate and Far Eastern University. She worked for Union Carbide Philippines,
where she met husband Elmer of 41 years. They migrated to USA in 1975. Linda then worked for oil
companies Tenneco Oil & Gas, Exxon Inc. and ABB Lummus. She retired in 2005
but decided to go back to work for St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Missouri City, Texas
where they reside.
ANTONIO RAMOS MALLARI
Antonio Mallari was Area Representative and Coordinator in
US West Coast in 2008-2009, and 2010-2011. He is active in planning, organizing
of our association’s projects and reunions. He is a member of the committee
preparing for our First Medical and Dental Mission in Aparri next month.
Tony was born on February 28 in Ilagan, Isabela to spouses
Francisco Mangiliman Mallari and Venancia Vela Ramos. He has two siblings,
Paquito and Arthur. He is married to Iris Tubilleja Uytiepo of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, with whom they have
2 children, Joseph and Sasa.
He attained his education at SHOMI, Ateneo de Tuguegarao,
University of the Philippines,
University of the East and Ateneo de Manila Graduate School. He worked at UE, Esso Philippines,
AMPI (Leyland Philippines)
and Manulife Insurance.
His family migrated to US in 2003. They reside at Culver City, California.
ERNESTO ‘ERNIE’ REYES
Ernie Reyes is our new Area Representative and Coordinator
in US East Coast. He is in charge of recruiting other Aparrianos to become AII
members, and to coordinate our company activities.
He is married to Warlita Berbano. He got his education from CVI and University of the East. He came to USA
in New York City
in 1971. He presently works at Bedford Oak Advisors as Office
Manager. He is affiliated with Aparri International Humanitarian
Foundation (AIHF) as its Vice-President; Pilipino Bowling League, as President
in 1996-2000; and Filipino Association of Rockland, as PRO in 1997-98.
His hobbies and interests are in golf, chess, bowling and
dancing. His family lives in Blauvelt,
New York.
HARRY TAMAYO DONIEGO
Harry Doniego was Area Representative (Canada) in 2006-2007.
He was born on August 4 in Aparri, Cagayan to the late
Clemente and Helen Doniego. He is married to Venus Tolentino Doniego from Asingan, Pangasinan,
and blessed with 3 wonderful kids.
He studied at SHOMI, now St. Paul School of Aparri, Class
Batch 1969; and completed a college degree in Accounting. He worked with Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) for 13
years, then migrated to California, USA in
1990. He worked with 4 companies( Abbot Lab, Hewlett Packard, ASK Computers,
Comag Industries) as Accountant all in a span of 2 years before moving to New York. From
1993-2000, he worked as Fund Accountant with Morgan Stanley Inc., which was
based at World Trade Center.
He said he fortunately moved to Toronto,
Canada in 2000,
a year before his former workplace at WTC was tragically and completely destroyed by terrorists in 2001.
In Toronto,
he worked with the following companies: State Street, AGF Management, Mavrix Fund
Management, and Citco Canada Inc. as Investment Accountant. He is presently the Vice President of United Filipino
Canadian Organization, which has a scholarship program bringing unfortunate
kids to college.
His family now resides in Toronto, Canada.
JAMES DAVID ACOBA
James David ‘JayDee’ Acoba is an Esquire Parliamentarian. He
serves as Acting Secretary, whenever the Secretary is absent during Board
meetings. He is a regular attendee and participant in all AII meetings,
activities and events.
He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and grew up in Honolulu,
Hawaii, except for going high school at Vigan
Minor Seminary in Vigan, Ilocos Sur,
Philippines. He met and married Elisa Plata, who was born and raised in
Aparri, Cagayan. He learned Ilocano while in the Philippines, and Elisa taught him
Tagalog after their marriage.
He received his doctorate degree in Medicine (Cum Laude) at
the University of Nebraska; Master in Business Administration (Human Relations)
(Summa Cum Laude) from Webster’s University in Missouri; and Doctor of Laws degree (with Distinction) from Western State University
in California.
He is a member of the California Bar. He completed a 21-year career in the US Navy before starting
his private Law practice, emphasizing healthcare immigration. He is now
semi-retired.
He is adept in ballroom dancing, karaoke singing, story-telling.
His hobby is solving difficult puzzles. His family now lives in Irvine, California.
